GSO Public Lecture Series: Women in Ocean Science
Coastal Institute Auditorium
URI Narragansett Bay Campus
218 South Ferry Road
Narragansett, Rhode Island
Join us for the third in the spring Graduate School of Oceanography Public Lecture Series!
To kick off Women’s History Month, GSO is exploring the diverse experiences of women in ocean science. Gender diversity in oceanography has been improving in recent decades, yet women and those who identify as nonbinary remain underrepresented, particularly those belonging to marginalized groups. Join a conversation with three scientists to discuss their research and their perspectives on how the “leaky pipeline” of gender disparity in marine science can be fixed.
Featuring:
- Katy Croff Bell, Ph.D.’11, founder and president, Ocean Discovery League
- Fenix Garcia Tigreros, assistant professor, Graduate School of Oceanography
- Rebecca Robinson, professor, Graduate School of Oceanography
Moderator: Paula Bontempi, Ph.D.’01, Dean, Graduate School of Oceanography
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served. Program begins at 6 p.m.
This event will also be livestreamed. A recording will be available on the GSO YouTube channel following the event.
