Tom Burnham ’93

Tom Burnham ’93 is a professional sailor and sailing coach who has spent his life working in the industry. His positions have included boat captain, junior sailing coach, America’s Cup sailor, and coach.
Tom has spent most of his professional racing career competing in the World Match Race Tour, TP52 Super Series with Quantum Racing, RC44 Series with Artemis Racing, and Maxi circuit with Bella Mente. He has won many world championship titles along the way.
Throughout his career, Tom has been involved with five America’s Cup teams as a sailor and coach—Young America in 2000 and twice with the Italian Team Luna Rossa in 2003 and 2007. In 2017, he became the head coach of the Swedish America’s Cup Challenger, Artemis Racing. In 2024, he became head coach of American Magic for the 2024 edition.
Tom was also the head coach of SailGP team USA in season one and part time coach of SailGP team Australia in season two. During the 2021 America’s Cup, Tom worked as the in-studio expert for NBC Sports.
